Challenge

Frailty is a growing concern among ageing populations, linked to falls, poorer recovery and higher mortality. Fortunately, frailty is not an inevitable part of ageing: research suggests that, if identified early, it can be slowed and, in some cases, reversed.

However, today’s screening methods, such as questionnaires, observation and physical tests, are not always sensitive enough to detect early changes, or practical enough for routine use.

What is Vis-Frailty

Vis-Frailty is being developed as a self-guided screening tool for primary care and community settings. It provides an objective frailty score, together with scores for mobility, strength, balance and fall risk, helping care teams identify individuals at risk and guide care plans.

What is Vis-Frailty

How it works

  1. Record a short video of the assessment. No calibration, wearables or large space required.

  2. Results in under 5 minutes. Processed offline, so patient data stays on the device.

  3. A frailty report that brings attention to individuals at higher risk and the areas to focus on, helping guide care.

The Vis-Frailty result on an iPad: a dial from normal to frail, with balance, mobility and strength.

Frequently asked questions

What does Vis-Frailty measure?

Frailty status (normal, pre-frail or frail), plus scores for mobility, strength, balance and fall risk.

How long does a screening take?

Approximately five minutes per person.

Does a healthcare professional need to run it?

No. Vis-Frailty is self-guided, and individuals who are at risk can be quickly referred to a care team for follow-up.

Is Vis-Frailty available now?

Vis-Frailty is in a clinical study with National Healthcare Group Polyclinics, targeting launch in the first quarter of 2027.

Is Vis-Frailty covered by 3DGait’s FDA and HSA listings?

No. Those listings apply to 3DGait only. Vis-Frailty is currently in a clinical study.

Who developed Vis-Frailty?

CareCam, together with Dr Sabrina Wong’s team at National Healthcare Group Polyclinics.
